Azucena llega a Bogotá en compañía de su madre Dolores, su hermano Alberto y la pequeña Angelita. Viajan con todas sus pertenencias a bordo de “La Tere”, una vieja y pintoresca camioneta, fueron despojados de su casa por culpa de las deudas de Antonio, su padre, quien huyó después de sufrir un grave accidente. Las cosas no son fáciles en la capital.
Azucena busca trabajo sin suerte, hasta que una visita a la iglesia define su suerte: el Padre Benito descubre que tiene una gran habilidad para arreglar ramos y la recomienda en la mejor floristería de Bogotá. Su visita a la iglesia también determina el encuentro con José Ángel Rivero del Castillo, quien la ayuda a poner en marcha a la destartalada “Tere”. Gracias a su trabajo en la floristería, Azucena asiste a una importante boda, solo para descubrir que el novio es el apuesto hombre que le ayudo con su camioneta. La ceremonia se convierte en un infierno cuando varios hombres encapuchados entran disparando, asesinan a la novia, Andrea Santa cruz, y dejan a José Ángel malherido.
