Sofía y Antonio son completamente disímiles; sin embargo, el destino se empeña en unirlos en diferentes situaciones y lugares cuando ambos llegan a vivir a la ciudad caribeña de Santa Marta, ella como propietaria de un restaurante y el cómo un alto ejecutivo de una multinacional. Sofía, de clase media, administradora hotelera nacida en la ciudad costera de Barranquilla, y con todas las características propias de su cultura: escandalosa, rumbera, descomplicada, frentera, con un excelente sentido del humor y amante del Vallenato.
Él, de clase alta, nacido en la fría Bogotá, ingeniero de petróleos, estricto, programado, silencioso, introvertido, psicorrigido y amante de la música clásica. Sus encuentros, o mejor desencuentros, empiezan la noche en que el Cachaco, como se le llama a la gente del interior del país, es atormentado por el alto volumen de la música proveniente del apartamento de su vecina, una Costeña a la que poco le importa que el este intentando adaptarse a su nueva vida.
Lo que empieza como una simple discusión de vecinos se convierte después en casi en una costumbre, pues en una ciudad pequeña es imposible no encontrarse en el supermercado, en el restaurante, en el cine o en la playa… y en la oficina? Pero esta historia de amor parece que no será solo de dos, sino de cuatro, pues tanto Antonio como Sofía tienen que ver con alguien, él con una mujer con la que guarda mucha similitud en su forma de vida y gustos y ella con un coterráneo parrandero, machista y muy, muy, muy celoso que no piensa dejarse arrebatar a “su mujer” de un cachaco desabrido.
