En su último año de Colegio, Sonia conoce a Helmut Edinberg, un prestigioso Ingeniero de Minas que prácticamente le dobla la edad, pero posee absolutamente todos los atributos que cualquier mujer buscaría en un hombre.
Helmut ve cristalizados los dos más grandes sueños de su vida: casarse con Sonia y ponerse al frente del proyecto Carbonífero más importante de Latinoamérica. Este reto lleva a Helmut a descubrir una tierra mágica, inesperada, apasionante: La Guajira. La tecnología y la enorme infraestructura de la Mina de Carbón tendrán que abrirse campo entre el mundo del contrabando, las costumbres de la impredecible casta Wayuu y hasta las extravagancias de los traficantes de marihuana. El reto para Helmut resulta mucho mayor de lo que él mismo esperaba. A medida que pasa el tiempo, se va alejando cada vez más de su joven esposa. Sonia, acostumbrada al ritmo agitado y las comodidades de la ciudad, no encuentra cabida en un mundo extraño, peligroso, un mundo que no logra ni le interesa desifrar.

Sonia Arbeláez and Felipe Uribe are inseparable friends. They have grown together and together they have shared the most special moments of each of their lives. In her last year of college, Sonia meets Helmut Edinberg, a prestigious mining engineer who is practically twice her age, but she has absolutely all the attributes that any woman would look for in a man.
