Juliana muere al caer de la montaña que sube con Esteban. Después de la caída, Esteban busca a su compañero, Harold, quien le revela el siniestro plan que concibió para incriminarlo por la muerte de Juliana. Pero Harold, que luego es asesinado por otro hombre para silenciarlo, no es el único culpable. Hay otro que ordenó el asesinato y Esteban regresa para descubrirlo. Lo que Esteban no sabe es que Harold sobrevivió, es tetrapléjico, tampoco puede hablar y está confinado a una silla de ruedas por el resto de su vida. Su novia de toda la vida, Clemencia, una mujer ambiciosa que no se detiene ante nada para lograr lo que quiere, lo cuida.
A su regreso de él, la única pista que tiene son las Santamarías. Tenían un motivo: la herencia de la madre de Juliana, que obtuvieron tan pronto como murió Juliana. Esteban, creyendo que ellos son los culpables, decide iniciar su investigación con ellos. Pero ahora tiene un enemigo peligroso: Clemencia, conoce la verdadera identidad de Esteban, sabe que regresó al país y utilizará esa información para presionarlo. Esteban compra una propiedad para montar un negocio como el que tenía antes de huir. Aquí conoce a un trío de jóvenes: Ximena, Saúl y Fernando y se hace amigo de ellos. Ximena se enamora de Esteban a primera vista y cuando se entera de sus planes, se ofrece a ayudarlo, junto con sus amigos. Esteban conoce a Ángela, la hermana de Ximena, la mujer que cambiará su vida y le dará nuevas esperanzas, pero Ángela está casada con Alfonso Santamaría, precisamente uno de los hombres de los que Esteban sospecha que lo acusó. Ximena, ayudando a Esteban, se embarca en la investigación y descubre que Juliana no es quien Esteban pensaba que era, descubriendo que hay algo turbio en su pasado de ella.
El amor de Esteban y Ángela no será fácil de consumar. Por un lado, Alfonso no va a permitir que su mujer lo deje y hará todo lo posible para que vuelva a su lado. Esteban es perseguido por los detectives que contrató Francisco Santamaría. Además, las cosas se van a complicar aún más, su relación con Ángela, cuando ambos se han dado la oportunidad de amarse, ella comienza a sospechar que Esteban tuvo algo que ver con el asesinato de su padre por parte de ella.

Esteban buys a property to set up a business like the one he had before he fled. Here he meets a trio of young people: Ximena, Saúl and Fernando and becomes friends with them. Ximena falls in love with Esteban at first sight and when she finds out about his plans, she offers to help him, along with his friends. Esteban meets Ángela, Ximena's sister, the woman who will change her life and give her new hope, but Ángela is married to Alfonso Santamaría, precisely one of the men Esteban suspects he accused him of. Ximena, helping Esteban, embarks on the investigation and discovers that Juliana is not who Esteban thought she was, discovering that there is something shady in her past.
