Es el final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. El mundo celebra los juicios de Nuremberg y llora la muerte de Manolete. En Argentina, Evita se convierte en reina de Los Descamisados y en Colombia, Jorge Eliécer Gaitán demuestra su poder de convocatoria en La marcha de las Antorchas.
En ese escenario, una empleada del servicio golpea las casas señoriales y las puertas de los Juzgados en Bogotá, buscando justicia. Señala a Buenaventura Nepomuceno Matallana, rico abogado, como el responsable de la desaparición de su patrón, nadie le cree. Merceditas Ramos, la empleada, pone sus escasas pruebas en manos del periodista más famoso de la época, Félix González Robledo, famoso por sus crónicas policiacas.
González Robledo une fuerzas con un avezado investigador, Benito Capote, y juntos comienzan a examinar las actuaciones del millonario abogado Matallana. Bien pronto, Merceditas y sus investigadores se ven sepultados por los indicios, pero no de un asesinato, ni de dos, ni de diez, hay decenas de desaparecidos. No están frente a un asesino corriente, sino frente a un asesino real.
Por cuenta del trío de investigadores, el prestigioso Matallana va a la cárcel con su nombre convertido en el alias: “Doctor Mata”. El hombre jura venganza contra Merceditas y el asesinato de Jorge Eliécer Gaitán le brinda la oportunidad. El Bogotazo abre las puertas de todas las cárceles y el Dr. Mata ya está entre las calles incendiadas buscando a Merceditas

It is the end of World War II. The world celebrates the Nuremberg trials and mourns the death of Manolete. In Argentina, Evita becomes queen of Los Descamisados and in Colombia, Jorge Eliécer Gaitán demonstrates his convening power in La marcha de las Antorchas.
In this scenario, a service employee knocks on stately homes and the doors of the Courts in Bogotá, seeking justice. She points to Buenaventura Nepomuceno Matallana, a wealthy lawyer, as the person responsible for the disappearance of her employer, nobody believes her. Merceditas Ramos, the employee, places the scant evidence of her in the hands of the most famous journalist of the time, Félix González Robledo, famous for his police chronicles.
González Robledo joins forces with a seasoned investigator, Benito Capote, and together they begin to examine the actions of the millionaire lawyer Matallana. Very soon Merceditas and her investigators are buried by the evidence but not of a murder, not two, not ten, there are dozens of missing. They are not facing an ordinary murderer but a real murderer.
On behalf of the trio of investigators, the prestigious Matallana goes to jail with his name becoming the alias: "Doctor Mata". The man swears revenge against Merceditas and the murder of Jorge Eliécer Gaitán gives him the opportunity. The Bogotazo opens the doors of all the prisons and Dr. Mata is already among the burned streets looking for Merceditas.
