La bella Catarina es arribista, vanidosa, caprichosa y cómoda, pero sobre todo es racista, odia a los negros. Muy diferente a su hermana La Pola, seguidora de las normas de su tiempo, acepta casarse sin amor con un hombre mayor y ser fiel servidora de su marido por el sueño de ser tratada como “doña”. Ante de la falta de sus padres, debe hacerse cargo de sus hermanos, pero no tiene vocación ni disposición para ello. La Pola ve en Catarina todo lo que ella no quiere ser.

The beautiful Catarina is upstart, vain, capricious and comfortable, but above all she is racist, she hates blacks.
